The Captain’s Cottage is a wonderfully restored historic cottage. It is in a great location, with great views and an easy walk along the waterfront to cafes and restaurants. The cottage itself is very spacious and well equipped. We would definitely want to stay there again and will recommend it to our friends.
Davis Kersey - Feb, 2018
Wonderful setting looking out on Nelson Cut and Tasman Bay. Great living quarters and main bedroom on the ground floor.
Liz Hirst - Feb, 2018
Hi, We were very enjoy the time in Nelson, the cottage was nice comfortable. The view from the house was beautiful and unforgettable. The noise from the road made us worry on the first day and then we got used to it. We felt it was too short stay and will be back sometime in the future. Kind regards
Huika Li - Jan, 2018
Lovely unique cottage. Nice to stay somewhere with heritage.

Great house in a perfect location!
Bryn Murphy - Oct, 2017
Thanks, We had a lovely time. It is a cute little cottage and nice and warm. We couldn't find the wine glasses until the last morning! Felt a bit silly about that! Wine tastes good in any vessel... Thanks again
Jo Rodwell - Jun, 2017
Hi Jarrod, Sara & Peta-Jane, We absolutely loved our stay!! Thank you so much for being so accomodating to us, everything was lovely. Our kids loved the cottage and we spent every afternoon at the beach. We will definitely be coming back! Warmest regards, Rick & Hadassah
Rick & Hadassah Kennett - Apr, 2017
“Awesome place right on the Nelson Harbour, close to the DELICIOUS Boatshed restaurant! There are some steep stair to get to second floor, but the rooms are spacious and comfy. Bring earplugs if you're coming during the week as the traffic starts early but the views are unbeatable”
Sally Tanner - Mar, 2017
The number of photos we took from the front porch and the upstairs windows is testimony of the sights and views from this beautiful cottage; sunsets, activity out on the water, ships coming and going, and stunning vistas. The cottage is charming and spacious. The back deck is intimate and comfortable for morning coffee or evening dining. The road is close to the cottage and the vehicle noise is fairly constant. I only say this so that you are prepared. Every moment of our 5 nights were magical. Communications were prompt, informative, and friendly. We found everything just as their communications conveyed.
Tracy and Grant Baynes - Feb, 2017
The cottage was wonderful and I be recommending it to anyone who is coming to New Zealand and going to Nelson or using Nelson as a base as we did. It had everything we needed and was so quirky. Thanks again.
T Gaunt - Jan, 2017
Hello Peta-Jane and Sara We loved staying in the cottage. It had lots of character and very most welcoming and the views we're outstanding. However the road is the only thing that lets it down. Apart from that we very much enjoyed our stay. Thank you. Regards Jo
J Tinsley - Jan, 2017Hi Jo, Thanks so much for your feedback and it's great to hear that you enjoyed your stay! We'd all love to see the volume of traffic on Rocks Road - Wakefield Quay decreased. There is hope that a new highway will be added to the Nelson road network & that this will remove trucks & some of the cars, also allowing for the redevelopment of this beautiful waterfront into the World class recreation area that it so deserves to be :-)Holiday Nelson
Hi Jarrod and Peta-Jane. Just want to say a big thank you to you for sorting out the lovely little cottage for us to stay in. The Captains cottage was delightful and provided us with a very pleasant stay. Thank you also for letting us leave our belongings there while we were on our walk. And what an interesting walk it was!! The first night we had the earthquake, and then torrential rain which caused flooding on the track. All made for a few extra challenges, but the walk was certainly worth it and enjoyable. We really enjoyed the last two days when we came back to Nelson also. Would love to come back and stay again, and just experience more of the Nelson region. I will certainly be recommending your services to others who are looking for accommodation and would not hesitate to use your services again when we come back.
A Rutledge - Nov, 2016
t was great. Everything was good, wifi etc. Only issue was the traffic but that's to be expected being on a main road and we'll know for next time. Location was handy with restaurants within a close walking distance.
S Hartill - Oct, 2016
Thanks for your email. We had a lovely stay at the cottage. It was warm , well set up and the beds were very comfortable.
S Gunn - Sep, 2016
Hi Peta-Jane We had a great stay in Nelson after a delayed start. Thanks again,
R Bereton - Sep, 2016

L Steiner - Jul, 2016
Hi We found Captains Cottage a perfect spot for our shortstay in Nelson. It was great to be able to walk on long the quay to local restaurants. The cottage was comfortable and inviting and the view from the rooms was stunning. Thanks
S Takerei - May, 2016
Dear Jarrod and Peta-Jane, Thank you for your email. We very much enjoyed Captain's Cottage - it was a good choice for us. We were surprised at the heavy traffic just outside the front door. We rather thought that WQuay would be more like a seafront promenade rather than a super highway. This did not spoil our stay. The cottage was well equipped, generously stocked with the necessaries, and I spent some time watering daily, which revived the garden. Our family wedding was across the road at the Boathouse - perfect! (60+ family members flew into Nelson from all over Australia), and on our last evening we had the best dinner in years at the Harbour Light? Bistro a few doors down. My husband and I are coming back - it's an amazing place and we loved it.
M Holloway - Mar, 2016
Thanks for a lovely stay in your Captain's Cottage. We had a great few days in Nelson. Extra thanks for dropping in the coffee pods - they were much appreciated.
J Lambert-Smith - Mar, 2016
Thank you, we really enjoyed the accommodation, a little busy with the traffic but great location. Accommodations were great. Aside from the tragic noise which was easily overcome with ear plugs. Thank you. We would recommend this property to others!
P Krawchenko - Feb, 2016
Afternoon, We really enjoyed our stay thank you. Everything was as described and we were impressed by how clean and tidy the whole house was. The extras such as coffee machine, car parking ticket and wifi were great benefits.
A Harrid - Jan, 2016
We will keep returning to this little house on Wakefield Quay every time we're in Nelson. It just has the best vibe, an awesome view, and all the comforts you need. Holiday Nelson is super-friendly, professional, and prompt. A 10 out of 10!!
N Harper - Jan, 2016
The property managers were extremely responsive and friendly always. The house has the greatest vibe - 175 years of stories! The view is fabulous, as is the location. Absolutely wonderful. Would highly recommend.
N Harper - Nov, 2015
Loved the heritage and character of the cottage! Really great that there was games there and magazines. When we weren't making the most of the proximity to great local restaurants we made excellent use of the BBQ & cosy kitchen ;-) Thanks again!
C & S Townsley - Feb, 2015
Beautiful property, well positioned and has comfortable beds. Secure patio out the back is ideal for children to play in. Captain's Cottage helped make our stay in Nelson really enjoyable. We would definitely go back!
T MacDonald - Mar, 2014
Was even more amazing than than the photos online. The views from the upstairs windows are fantastic and the furnishing of the cottage is totally in keeping with it's history. Loved it!
M Whyte - Feb, 2014
Fantastic holiday home, lots of character touches but still has mod cons like heat pump, big TV and fully kitted out for a short or long stay. The stairs are steep but a door at the bottom means you can keep the little ones contained downstairs! The road outside is quite busy but only took one night for us to get used to the noise and it's a small price to pay for the view and the location. We'll be back again :)
R O'Keefe - Feb, 2013
beautiful cottage with stunning views. It can be noisey for those sensitive to traffic noise but we all loved our stay.
